Health and HIV/AIDS Projects
United Nations Organization, Evaluation of the Country Response Information System Version 3.0 (2010)
EnCompass evaluated the Country Response Information System version 3.0 (CRIS3), which is an electronic tool that enables national AIDS authorities to track their response to HIV/AIDS. The evaluation answered whether CRIS3 was an effective data management tool, what optimal support from the UN would be needed for countries and organizations using CRIS3, and what the role of the UN should be in supporting data management tools as part of national HIV/AIDS monitoring and evaluation systems.
U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Botswana Ministry of Education and HIV Education Project (2008-2010)
Through a two-year project funded by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, EnCompass provided technical assistance to the Government of Botswana’s Ministry of Education and Skills Development to support the implementation of a curriculum to build life skills for school-going youth. The curriculum, Living Skills for Life: Botswana’s Window of Hope, is part of a major HIV prevention effort that targets every primary and secondary school student in the country.
EnCompass provided strategic direction to the project, led the design and implementation of a comprehensive monitoring and evaluation (M&E) system for the project, supported teacher training and development of materials, and conducted an implementation evaluation. EnCompass led experiential workshops focused on strategic planning and participatory development of an M&E framework, and provided ongoing coaching and technical assistance to build local capacity to support M&E.
United States Agency for International Development, TREAT TB (Technology, Research, Education and Technical Assistance for Tuberculosis Project) (2008-2010)
The goal of the TREAT TB project is, through research, to improve TB control practice and policies that will lead to improved case detection and treatment success rates and ultimately decrease TB morbidity and mortality. As a subcontractor to the International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease (The Union), EnCompass is helping to develop strategies for the evaluation, knowledge management, and communications activities of the project. To date, EnCompass has led the development of a knowledge portal (www.treattb.org), and developed a logic model and a performance monitoring plan for the project.
United Nations Organization, Joint Learning for HIV Prevention Leadership Training (2009-2010)
EnCompass designed and delivered the global Joint Learning for HIV Prevention Leadership Training program for a UN organization, which seeks to raise the capacity and skills of country-level technical staff in leading HIV-prevention activities and reducing new infections in their countries of services.
EnCompass designed four customized regional workshops for the organization’s technical staff in Southern Africa, Eastern Africa, Middle East and North Africa, and Latin America and the Caribbean. The core curriculum addresses knowing the epidemic and response, national strategic planning, leadership skills, gender equality and human rights, cost analysis, and best practices in prevention. As part of the curriculum design process, we developed a comprehensive facilitators’ guides, a video briefing for the executive staff, a brochure detailing the organization’s HIV prevention initiatives, and the design and delivery of a three-hour session at the International AIDS Conference in Vienna in 2010.
